Affect Career ChoicesWhat would happen if you had some choices that you could control in your career?

How to Build Your Career Success

Building Career SuccessSuccess Tweet: Focus on what you are becoming. This helps you believe in yourself and builds your confidence. Confidence is important to your success.

I love the idea of “becoming.”

It’s really a positive concept, and it’s similar to a couple of the ideas in The Optimist Creed. The sixth point of The Optimist Creed says, “Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.” The ninth point says, “Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.”

Finding a Job Through an Entertainment Personnel Agency

comments 0

Finding Jobs Entertainment AgencyI've had this conversation time and time again with clients, job candidates, younger friends...

They went to an entertainment personnel agency and during the interview, the agent asked what kind of job they were looking for. They were very clear, they tell me. They told the agent they wanted to work at a film production company. Or a TV network. Or a music management company. They wanted to work in the story department. They didn't want an admin job. They wanted a management trainee position.

The agent nodded and smiled. She seemed to understand. But then she sent my client, job candidate, or young friend to a post production house to interview for an admin job. “Just go on the interview,” the agent prodded. “I think they’ll really like you.”

Bad (Really Bad!) Job Seeker Advice

comments 0

It's funny how many well-intended people give out the single worst, I mean REALLY bad piece of job seeker advice to their family and friends.

As you can imagine, whenever I get caught up in a conversation about my work, people always want to tell me about a job seeker they know and the advice they gave them. It goes something like this:

The 7 Keys to Career Success

Seven Keys Career SuccessSuccess Tweet: Vision without action is a daydream. No matter how big your plans and dreams, they’ll never become reality until you act on them.

As a career success coach, I’m always looking for new and different ways to get across my common sense ideas on life and career success.

I found some great ideas great career advice in a Denver elementary school a couple of months ago. I was invited to see the Go For It! Institute’s program in action at a school in Denver. If you don’t know about the Go For It! Institute, you should. The Institute teaches kids the value of things like positive attitude, believing in themselves, positive habits, goal setting, and persistence.
