Seidenberg: Don’t Expect Verizon iPhone

Speaking at an investor's conference, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said the company will not be bringing the iPhone to its network any time soon.

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said the company will not be carrying any Apple phones until they make an LTE supported device.

Seidenberg, talking to investors at the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. conference in New York, said until Apple introduces a long term evolution (LTE) supported device, it will not be bringing any of the Cupertino based company's phones to its network. Verizon said it's excited about the build up of its LTE network, which will support fourth generation technology. Additionally, it said the company has done just fine with Google Android phones.

"I'm hoping that the success we've had with Droid will encourage Apple, Motorola, Samsung and even Huawei to make devices for 4G," Seidenberg said.

Instead of discussing a Verizon iPhone, Seidenberg focused on the LTE network. He said the company will release an LTE supported tablet soon and other Verizon based LTE devices will be on the market by the beginning of next year. Already, the New York City-based Verizon has been testing out the 4G network in several markets. "We've actually had the 4G network in the 30 or so markets up and running since June," Seidenberg told the investor crowd.

The service will launch in 50 airports by the end of year said Seidenberg. By 2012, he said 90 percent of the nation will be covered by Verizon's 4G network. He said no other carrier would be close to Verizon in that regard.

In addition, Seidenberg said the company will introduce tiered pricing at some point in the near future. He did not specify what the prices will be, but said it will differ from AT&T's tiered pricing. "The data experience we're going to offer is going to be better, so the tiers and bundles might be different," Seidenberg said.
