All India Bank employees give call to strike on September 7
All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has given the call for all India general strike on September 7, 2010, to protest a host of issues including foreign direct investment in public sector banks and entry of foreign banks amongst others, AIBEA said in a press release.
Employees in public sector Banks, private sector Banks, foreign Banks, Co-operative Banks and Regional Rural Banks will take part in the strike.
The Central Trade Unions, namely INTUC, HMS, AITUC, CITU, AIUTUC, UTUC, TUCC, AICCTU have jointly given the strike call.
The strike call has been given to protest a host of issues by AIBEA are,
> Anti-people banking sector reforms
> Merger of public sector Banks
> Disinvestments in public sector Banks
> Allowing licenses to industrial houses to open Banks
> Takeover of Bank of Rajasthan by ICICI Bank and nationalise ICICI Bank and all private Banks
> Outsourcing in Banks to protect their job security
> Mmerger of RRBs with sponsor Banks
The Government’s policies are increasingly becoming anti-people and anti-poor. The rich and the corporates are enabled to corner and accumulate huge wealth at the cost of the general masses. Workers and trade unions have become the victims of the Government’s present economic policies.
Indian Bank said that if the strike materializes, a section of the Bank's employees may take part in the proposed strike on the said date, in which case, the normal functioning of the branches or offices of the Bank may get affected.
