U.S. Engaged in Attracting Investments in Angola

Luanda (IBTimes.com) - United States of America's under-secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Agriculture, Ruben Jeffery, on Tuesday reiterated his country's willing of attracting investments into Angola, essentially in agriculture sector.

Ruben Jeffery said so during a press conference at Luanda "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, after a 24-hour trip to Angola.

According to the US official, the sector of agriculture has a lot to be explored as neither half of its arable lands are being cultivated.

On energy sector, he considered that the two countries have a very strong relation in this area, assured by the presence of various American firms, that are participating in the development of Angola's energy-related sector.

According to him, Angola has already achieved an economic development, meaning that it has been changing in benefit of its people.

"The Angolans should use this economic progress to solve, specially issues relating to health and education sectors, as well as for the reduction of poverty", he said.

Assessing his mission to Angola, Ruben Jeffery said that during the meetings he held with the Angolan authorities he discussed matters of bilateral relations, analysed the ways of strengthening them, as well as got informed on next September 05 legislative elections.

In Angola, the US official met with the assistant minister to Premier, Aguinaldo Jaime, the Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development, Pedro Canga, Finance, Pedro de Morais, and the Governor of the National Reserve Bank (BNA) Amadeu Maurício.

Nominated on April 16, 2007, Ruben Jeffery is the top official of the United States' State Department for economic affairs.
