Nairobi (IBTimes.com) - The Export Promotion Council is exploring ways that will see Kenya's horticultural produce access the United States Market.
The council is currently putting in place measures to address tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade, that have prevented Kenyan flowers from the lucrative market.
Speaking at a workshop of local exporters, Chief Executive Matanda Wabuyele said horticultural and agricultural produce have been barred from the US market due to sanitary and phyto-sanitary requirements demanded by consumers.
He said funds have been provided by the USAid that will help Kenyan producers address the issue.
Consultant Patti Carpenter said there is a large export market for Kenyan goods in the US that needs to be exploited.
She however noted that exporters ought to be trained on the preferences required by consumers before venturing.
A leading exporter of handicrafts Eunice Kaesa said many Kenyan exporters fail because of lack of sufficient funds and knowledge on requirements of the export market.
