Samsung Electronics Launches New Ultra-slim Phones |

Singapore (Reuters) - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, the world's third largest handset maker, launched on Wednesday three new ultra-slim mobile phones to tap the runaway success of Motorola's slim clamshell RAZR. Samsung unveiled the X820 ultra-slim candy-bar phone with 2-mega pixel camera that just weighs 66 grams and measures 6.9 milimeters thick. This is slimmer than Motorola's (MOT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) RAZR, which is about half an inch or 14 milimeters thick.
Samsung also unveiled the ultra-slim clamshell D830 which weighs 85 grams and measures 9.9 milimeters thick. It also offers a 2-mega pixel camera. The third phone launched by Samsung is the D900, a 3-mega-pixel slider phone weighing 85 grams and 12.9 milimeters thick.All these phones would be available later this year, Samsung said in a statement.
In the January-March quarter, Samsung garnered a global market share of 12.7 percent, while industry leader, Finland's Nokia had 32.8 percent, data from research outfit Strategy Analytics showed.Second-ranked Motorola Corp. of the U.S. had a 20.1 percent share, LG Electronics Inc.held 6.8 percent and Sony Ericsson achieved 5.8 percent.
