Libya, Venezuela Sign Co-operation Accord |

Nairobi (IBTimes.com) - Libya and Venezuela on Thursday signed a general co-operation agreement to increase bilateral ties.Libyan secretary for foreign affairs and international co-operation, Mohamed Tahar Siala and Venezuelan deputy minister for foreign affairs for Africa, Reinaldo Bolivar, signed for their respective countries.
The accord commits the two countries to encouraging and strengthening mutual cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy, oil, development, trade, investment, health, environment, agriculture and scientific research.
The signing ceremony was attended by Libyan secretary for industry, mining and electricity, Fethi Ben Chatouan and Venezuelan planning and development minister, Jorge Giordany.
It was signed at the end of a two-day visit to Libya by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
During his visit, President Chavez held talks with Libyan leader Moammar Kadhafi on ways the two countries can jointly enhance Co-operation between Africa and Latin America.
At the end of the visit, the Libyan foreign minister said that the two countries would work towards providing free medical aid and discounted oil to developing countries in Africa.
