Nairobi (IBTimes.com) - Market researcher IDC on Monday cut its forecast for 2006 U.S. personal
IDC said it expected computer makers such as Dell Inc. Hewlett-Packard Co., Gateway Inc. and Lenovo Group Ltd. to sell 68.2 million PCs in the United States this year.
In a November industry survey, IDC forecast this year's PC shipments at about 69.5 million units, compared with 63.9 million in 2005. The company said it expects sales to pick up in 2007 after Microsoft launches the consumer edition of Windows Vista.
Microsoft said last week it was expected to introduce the consumer version of Vista in January,
having previously said it would be out in the second half of this year. Business versions of
the highly anticipated software are scheduled for a November 2006 launch.
"The timing of the release will have some impact on when consumers buy, but not so much on whether or not they buy," IDC analyst Loren Loverde said in a statement.
The firm said it expected global sales of 229.4 million PCs this year, nearly unchanged from
its November forecast of 229.5 millions.
